Install Vista SP2 beta = Evaluation System

Isto pode ser um completo disparate, mas só hoje é que reparei neste detalhe.

Formatei recentemente o portátil, e decidi mandar o Vista Home Premium que vinha instalado no LG para o espaço. Tinha algumas features que justificam o nome Home Premium, mas sinceramente gosto mais da versão business. Dado que ainda dispunha de mais uma licença MSDN decidi instalar assim o Business. Dado que no Desktop tenho o Vista Business X64, para bem da humanidade decidir manter no latop a versão x86.

Em seguida instalei tudo o que era updates, e até decidi instalar o SP2… algumas melhorias o justificaram (source):

• Windows Vista SP2 adds Windows Search 4.0 for faster and improved relevancy in searches.
• Windows Vista SP2 contains the Bluetooth 2.1 Feature Pack supporting the most recent specification for Bluetooth Technology.
• Ability to record data on to Blu-Ray media natively in Windows Vista.
• Adds Windows Connect Now (WCN) to simplify Wi-Fi Configuration.
• Windows Vista SP2 enables the exFAT file system to support UTC timestamps, which allows correct file synchronization across time zones.

Hoje qual não é o meu espanto, quando reparei que no arranque, dado que o fundo de inicio é preto, antes de ser aplicado o WallPaper, tenho o Windows em Evaluation ! 🙂 Uma pequena marca de água no canto inferior direito fica visivel em fundos escuros, deixando de passar despercebida.

Continua activado, e com o Service Pack 2, v.113.

Junto ao relógio, no canto inferior direito as letrinhas passam despercebidas….

Mas quando se passa para um fundo mais escuro, eis que surge a revelação !

“Service Pack Information

• SP2 Beta is pre-release code which will change before the final release of SP2
• Windows Server 2008 SP2/Windows Vista SP2 Beta is time-limited software that will operate until May 1^st, 2010 – Un-install Windows Server 2008 SP2/Windows Vista SP2 Beta before May 1^st, 2010
  • After SP2 installation your desktop may display the text “Evaluation Copy”. This does not mean that your system is no longer “Genuine”, only that you have installed a test version of software which is time-limited
  • After installing the service pack, the “Evaluation Copy” text may show up on the 2^nd boot
  • After un-installing the services pack, the “Evaluation Copy” text may remain during the first boot, but will disappear after the next reboot
• Starting any Windows Server 2008 SP2 or Windows Vista SP2 installations will result in Microsoft collecting information about the installation process”
